Llambias – Barry Moat close to completing takeover

Words by Kevin Doocey on .

Players - Doing their job on the pitch

We can’t fault the lads performances over the season so far, two wins and a draw, that draw being a dreaded away trip to the Hawthorns for any other Championship side. However Newcastle United are not any Championship side, only at Newcastle could we attract nearly 44,000 to a home game, mind you, it only being the third game of the season and the traveling Geordies weren’t disappointed. Another Ameobi goal and another three points, leaving Newcastle 3rd in the Coca Cola Championship league standings. Just now there has been words from Derek Llambias that Barry Moat is ‘there or thereabouts’ on completing the Newcastle United sale.

Speaking to Newcastle’s local BBC radio station the last few minutes, Llambias said he has spoken to ‘Fans 410’ and liked their idea, only thing is, the funds were unrealistic and the MD said he could never see it happening. Asked about Moat, he said that the local businessman was ‘there or thereabouts’ but also said that there were other consortia on the same stage in negotiations, basically saying that Moat is not the only one running and although Moat is Mike Ashley’s preferred bidder, he might not be able to fund the project. We are sure to hear more about this, this evening. Stay tuned on Tyne Time.

So what's your gut feeling Doocey will it be Moat or some other consortium ( Freddy Shepard's lot maybe's) i just wish they'd hurry up and get it sorted

Doocey: ⏱ 20/08/2009

Well I think it will be Moat because he seems very much like Mike Ashley preference. Hope so too, a fan owning the club would be a change!

I agree Moat would be the prefered option but we still wont know until it's officially anounced i'm hoping it's sooner rather than later as the transfer windows getting smaller and smaller and surely they'll be looking to add to the squad i dont know how the financial side works but i would hope by now that if Moat ( or anyone else )buys the club it would take immediate effect and you would hope they'd look to strenghten the squad as quick as possible

Yeah, the transfer market will play a vital role in our season this time. It's what got us relegated last year to an extent. Shearer who hopefully will be appointed, will look for targets straight away, my only concern is, if Moat's having problems raising money to buy the club, where's he going to get the money for the wage bill and transfers? Interesting to see who the other bidder(s) are..

Yeah that's a nagging doubt its all very well buying the club but will he have the funds to sustain the club i mean at the minute we know were we are with Ashley i.e. he has no intentions of spending anymore money on the club my fear would be Moat can buy the club but have nothing left for players which we desperatley need its a very long season and we will have injuries and we need to make sure we have good players to step in when needed i'd hate to see us say have a great two thirds of the season then get hit by injuries with no proper cover for the final third because of lack of funds

Doocey: ⏱ 20/08/2009

Exactly. Hopefully he has financial backing. Reports in Sky Sports now that Everton are in talks with Newcastle over Steve Taylor. Certainly hope not.

Taylor going might be Ashley's final kick in the nuts to Shearer dont forget Shearer wanted to base a young squad around Bassong and im sure Stevie Taylor would be a big part of that all we can hope is Moyes refuses to pay what we want for Stevie

If Ashley gets 100 million after buying it for 150 he has got the greatest deal ever ..... considering theyre going to need another 100 million spent on transfers to get the playing staff to a similar level to when he come in, the fact he has relegated them and ruined tv/matchday/shirt sales revenue. I hope the Fat Cnuts helicopter crashes.

I'd be surprised if he went to be honest. I hope he calms the storm and says he staying. Surely he want to stay if Shearer is only days away from being appointed?

If the toon are going to have any hope of bringing new players in b4 the window closes this needs 2 b resolved now. However with all the false information and red herrings the club and press have fed us recently I don't think it will be and Taylor and co will move on and we'll be left with a skeleton crew till jan.GET YA FINGER OUT ASHLEY AND GET GONE.

Doocey: ⏱ 20/08/2009

True. I think anyone with a bit of money, (which is willing to spend) and has good ambitions can make a success of this club. Hopefully Moat is our man , but again, I will question his finances.

Dave : Welcome to Tyne Time haha! Yes, that is my problem, the transfer window could well the thorn in our side again. We need it sorted before it's closed. Or else, even if Shearer's on board, we're still in big trouble!
