Taylor can be Toon’s top man

Words by Kevin Doocey on

Steven Taylor returned to action yesterday against Peterborough and was reliable throughout the whole of the ninety minutes. Newcastle broke out of the traps very quickly indeed and saw two goals within the first twenty minutes. None less then Jonas Gutierrez scoring his first goal for Newcastle United and local lad Andy Carroll netted his fourth of the season. To be fair to a young Peterborough side, they were too nice to Newcastle and gave them too much respect. It should’ve really been more than two nil going in at half time and at the end of the 90 minutes, 3-1 wasn’t a real reflection of Newcastle’s dominance.

As my headline suggests Steven Taylor is an instrumental figure in Newcastle’s season this year, and out quest to return to the Premier League at first attempt. Some people in the Premier League are already claiming we have promotion secured already but that’s utter nonsense to say the least.

Darren Ferguson said yesterday that he has seen the team that would win the league but in all fairness, we’ve achieved nothing yet. We’re about a third of the way or thereabouts through the season and all is good, but we’ve many a tough fixture to play yet.

The good news is that we’re picking points up where we need to, @ at St.James’ Park and on the road in tricky fixtures such as Sheffield United last Monday.

Mike Ashley’s presence was very much known to the crowd yesterday as they made their feeling well known but I very much doubt Mike is taking any heed of them unfortunately. He’s hoping for promotion, as are we, but for two very different reasons..

Comments welcome 🙂
