Should Marlon Harewood stay on at Newcastle?

Words by Kevin Doocey on .

Harewood - Doing quite well for Newcastle of late

You can’t fault Marlon Harewood’s efforts lately for Newcastle, actually far from it. The striker has scored a few goals and is working hard and moreso, for the team. Arriving on loan from Villa, Harewood didn’t establish himself as a very gracious striker or very skillful, indeed it’s lucky that Chris Hughton’s spoke to him or we might not we debating whether we’d like him back or not at all. For me, I’d like to see him stay, mainly because we shouldn’t be decreasing the size of our squad, but increasing it.

So, firstly I must say I’m rather rushing this article because I’ve been caught up all day, I apologise for that.

Anyway, do you think Harewood should stay until the end of the season at Newcastle?

Comments welcome 🙂

Yeh should keep till end of the championship but he aint gonna cut starting in the premiership. I remember watching him play for west ham and thinking then he was a proper donkey little did I know he'd end up here, the only decent game I saw him play for west ham was when he scored against man utd. Not technicaly good enough in imo

I would normally have said NO until Carroll's antics. He's put himself in the 'dodgy' category with his nightclub, police antics and yellow cards. That leaves Shola - injury prone Lovenkrands - family issues with a sick father and Ranger - young and inexperienced We need Marlon as the fact is that our entire attack could disappear overnight.

aye keep him for deffo-hes scoring goals and getting in now when it matters-til end of season at least....

We need to keep Marlon for the rest of the season, but only as cover for Ranger. Nile should be getting mucho minutes under his belt as he is our long term future.

I hope we keep booth Simpson and Harewood! We sign Simpson permanently and Harewood get a longer loan deal! I am not agree with "DONALDO", we dont need to use Harewood as a cover for Ranger. Ranger is for young and he should be cover for Harewood. I also hope we can sign Kris Boyd from Rangers! If we can, I already can smell Premiership! We also need to keep our squad, and not loose someone. I also hope we can get Kilgallon! Then smells good!

Keep him until the end of the season. If you feed the Hare he will score!

Definitely not, all he has done so far is hinder the development of Ranger! 4 goals in 3 months is hardly inspiring & it's not as if he can point to his aerial prowess, hold up play or running off the ball like the other strikers as mitigation! Hughton so far has proved himself to be a manager that will play his own signings ahead of players already at the club justified or not! Experience is no substitute for talent!

Marlon has done well and seems a great guy who has shown his character and has 4 goals too. But I think he will stop the progress of Nile Ranger and Andy Carroll and he's also costing us 20K/week in wages. I think he'll go - but if he stays I wouldn't be too bothered - he seems a good man and is starting to score goals for us - but I cannot see him be a star in the Premier league.

Rather see who is available (striker) on loan. Never rated Marlon, little technique, relies on a physical game, not great pace. If we could get Machada at Christmas would buy him a ticket back to Brum right away.

I think we should get him in on loan again till the end of the season for the simple fact that he is and always has been a championship striker. I remember thinking that when he used to play for West Ham. I doubt we wouldnt be able to prise 2 from the other 4, but now that he has got himself fit and scored 4 goals he has done enough to justify a stay till the end of the season and he does work hard. That said I would like to see him jump for the ball a bit more. If we could get someone like Machada in though definately release.

For a guy that is hugely strong and fast he doesn`t really get himself about and let the defenders know they are in a game(like wor andy does)half as much as he should do. I would also keep him to the end of the season, but Premiership quality he definitely is not. Give Nile some more time on the pitch, now that he has got his first goal too. NUFC FOREVER is wrong saying Nile is too young,Was Rooney/Owen/Gerrard/Scholes/Beckham+++++++too young to start playing for their clubs????? They needed time in the first team before they became class players

Marty-toon Are you comparing Ranger with those you mentioned above, if so we have a future big time star on our hands, think perhaps you are asking a lot more than the kid can deliver.
