Kilgallon could still arrive at Newcastle as Beckford transfer scenario lingers on

Words by Kevin Doocey on .

Kilgallon - Newcastle still reportedly in the hunt despite statement

Although Matthew Kilgallon indicated that he will stay on at Sheffield United for the remainder of the season, there are still rumours out there that he could well still arrive at St. James’ Park. As he’s in his last few months of his contract at Bramall Lane, Kilgallon will seek a move in the summer for free, and to a Premier League club if he can. However, Chris Hughton is still interested in the former Leeds defender and it’s not outside the realms of possibility that Kilgallon could pull on a Black and White jersey in the month of January.

On the other hand, our supposed failure to grasp Kilgallon has meant that according to the Evening Chronicle, Leon Cort will be sought after for defensive cover behind Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor. Whether it’s true or not, I really don’t know.

Speaking to Goal.com yesterday, Jermaine Beckford apparently said he was ‘off to Newcastle’. Yet again however, there’s been little talk in the media of the Beckford scenario since then. We expect that Hughton is working hard to secure a deal for the 20 goal striker.

Hughton is adamant his transfer targets will arrive but he might not necessarily mean Beckford or Kilgallon, I heard Ezequiel Lavezzi was being linked. How realistic 😀

Either way, time will tell. We’ll just have to see if Mike Ashley will loosen his purse strings this January or if it will be another disappointing start to the year.

Comments welcome 🙂

How about the philosophy of not overpaying for players who are not proven whether new to the league or English football. One match wonder Beckford is not proven.

20 goal scorer ? Guys no better than what we have would`nt bother me if he does`nt show up. Like to have got kilgallon seems decent, but we are obviously not prepared to pay what he is worth. Another stupid gamble, cause he will go to someone else in the summer, why ? Ashley will not pay an increase in personal terms due to no transfer fee. Not smart !

I think we really need a good midfielder aswell as a good finisher,we have no creativity in the middle of the park we just keep hoofing the ball from harper to the strikers

Have to agree with jerry, long ball tactics, no creativity and even when we do get a chance of a break we play it backwards, allowing defenders to get in position and then have no option except cross from a long way out. granted jonas does on occasion get at defenders but his final delivery often leaves a lot to be desired. It is not the prettiest football to watch, but up to now is fairly effective, but I get this uneasy feeling our tactics ( or lack of them)have been rumbled and teams now deal with them a lot better. Hope I am wrong, but I think the second half of the season will be far more difficult than the first.

Beckfords Nuts: ⏱ 08/01/2010

Wait until you see Beckford play you Toons are in for a big shock! I will give him 3 games before the booing starts. Bad attitude, terrible first touch, very poor team player and constant moaning and sulking. A conversion rate of about 8 chances to 1 goal. You will understand what i mean soon trust me.

Tel is right. I see no real creativity in the side. We have some good guys and Nolan is the best in the championship, but there is no plan B. Just route one. Should still be good enough, though but.

Kevin - I think we'll probably see Leon Cort on loan for the rest of the season - with the hope we could pick Kilgallon up for free in the summer. With Coloccini very rarely injured and Chris Hughton having the best injury record of any recent manager, through good old common sense, like not playing players when they are injured - we have to hope Coloccini and Steven Taylor remain injury free. And with young Tamas Kadar looking better with every game - an experienced back-up like Leon Cort, may be all we need for the rest of the season. Let's hope there's a draw tonight between WBA and Nottingham Forest - but since we are trying to put space between ourselves and the 3rd placed side - a WBA win would be next best result.

Probably will Ed. A draw would be a perfect result, however West Brom will probably take it.

I think we'll get Beckford but not Killagon. Which is a shame because I get the distinct impression that Beckford is a total cock. Last thing we need is another player with a personality like Craig Bellend.

No Kilgallon and most probably no Becks. Without a good payment no good players will come to Toon. Its not enough if a player wants to come and you do not back him by paying a decent sum for him. Most of the Leeds supporters feel that Becks is worth between 3 and 5 million, whilst another 25% of those voting said that he is priceless. Why start with an offer of a measly 1 million if there is a real interest in the player? This is dragging too much and unless we pay, we get f**k

i think beckford will struggle at newcastle. you will soon see how bad his first touch and close control is. i think you would have been better off getting a proven championship striker rather than take a big gamble on a player who has, in alot of pessure games ie play offs ,last weekend aside gone totally missing.i think leeds will come off best if they 2 million for him. he,s not a team player
