Would Xisco be worth recalling from Racing Santander?

Words by Kevin Doocey on .

Xisco worth recalling for January promotion push?

One of our readers asked the question whether recalling Francisco Jiménez Tejada or more commonly known as Xisco, could solve Newcastle’s continuing forward problems. We’ve been constantly linked with Jermaine Beckford but most have forgotten our own player Xisco, who is still on the books at Newcastle United. Although on loan at Racing Santander at the minute, I’d be  pretty confident there’s a clause in his contract which allows us to recall him at anytime from his loan in Spain. He did cost £5.75m after all and it’s fair to say that we haven’t got any value for money just yet.

So, do you think he’d be worth recalling and giving a go in what will prove to be a tough New Year period for Newcastle United? With West Brom coming up very soon indeed, it’s important that we’ve most of our players fit and maybe even Joey Barton could recover in time for the tie.

Dennis Wise was the mastermind behind the Xisco signing on the last day of the season, the eve of Kevin Keegan’s fallout with the board at St.James’ Park. A solitary goal at home to Hull, which we lost 2-1 was Xisco’s only goal on the books for Newcastle. Who’ll ever forget that memorable tap in from 6 yards? 😀

Either way, we’re still paying a huge chunk of his wages and he deserves another go in the Black and White jersey of Newcastle, perhaps this is the perfect time. He has scored once or twice in Spain for Racing and I know there’s goals in the lad.

Just an idea although the likelihood of the 23-year old returning from sunny Spain to a snowed-down Newcastle isn’t great.

Comments welcome 🙂

Recall him. Give him a crack and see what happens. He might be able to job for us considering we are in a lower division to last year. If things don't work out we can just loan him back out and we won't be wondering what if- he will have a point to prove because of what happened last year! Is he playing regularly in Spain? Last I heard he had played a few games but picked up the injury he had lied about having in the summer in order to for e the move

Watched him last night was nothing special and didn't seem to have determination or pure quality, which you need both or alot of one to survive in English football. His 18 year old team mate however was a different class and if Ashley wants youngsters we should look no further. He faked an injury to get out of the toon so don't want to see him around anymore to be honest. For his wages, would prefer Harewood as he certainly got some important goals.

hardly got the best goals to game ratio, and was loaned out for a reason

He's better than Ameobi, but like Milner, Given ect the club mess led to their departure.

We can't sign anyone at the moment Ashley is in vegas with Owl Heed playing Roulette.

Sir Jason Toon, I don't think the fact Ashley & Llambias are in Vegas means a whole lot. I doubt it would have any bearing on our transfer activity if there is any. Just a thought.

personally I don't think he deserves another go after he said he deliberately manufactured a move to get out of the club however if we are paying a huge chunk of his wages we might as well have him here and at least he can give us cover

in a word, no. he doesn't want to play for us, has said as much himself and from the sounds of it is a petulant sod to boot. ironically, sounds a bit like beckford, but then i'm wary of us signing him too. frankly, Xisco is exactly the sort of player we don't need at the club and Ranger may only have one goal to his name too, but at least he plays like he wants to do well for the team and is happy to play the role asked of him by the management.

Sir Bobby: ⏱ 11/01/2010

Can you blame Xisco for feigning injury to get out of toon last season? You are a young foreing lad from Spain thinking you are joining a Massive Club that will be challenging for 7th place..... You come in to find out that the manager doesn't want you there..... You come in to find out that YOU are the reason the manager, the great Messiah Kevin Keegan walked (really going to make you feel like the fans will take to you).... You play only 2 matches the whole season and are thrown in the reserves(He did very well for the reserves BTW)....... And you have 4 different managers......... I DON'T BLAME XISCO AT ALL, WE SHOULD BRING HIM BACK IF WE ARE STRUGGLING FOR STRIKERS.

The guy was never given a chance really. Then again he did`nt show a lot of desire if I recall. Have`nt heard any reports of him tearing up La Lega either. Then again when Shola is our best striker, does`nt say a lot about the rest. Does anyone really care ?

DJG: ⏱ 11/01/2010

Looked too good in the reserves. I think he should be given a fair crack at this level. This is the guy who had a better goal to game ratio than fernando torres in the spainish u21 remember. Despite what people say, actually has bags of pace and skill. Would do well under a manager like Hughton and team spirit the way it is. To be fair the lad did get kicked from pillar to post abit. Didn't cost £5.75M for nowt.

The big question is would the lad want to come back after being brought in for 5 million and put into the reserves while the team struggled . He would at least add another face to the squad if brought back .

I saw him play for Racing in their 2-1 upset victory over Sevilla. Their MF Canales scored both Racing goals. Xisco started at centre FW but was a complete non-factor in the game.

Thanks for the mention Doocey, I didn't think me asking that question on the Beckford blogg the other day would lead to it own topic, cheers mate :) As I said originallt, bring him back for the rest of this season, if he does ok, we keep him, if he's crap, send him out on loan again or sell him, no lose to us either way is it :)

Stating a fact Ameobi has scored a few goals against poor opposition but what else has he done in matches except walk around pitch and needlessly foul players. Don't get me wrong he'd be in my starting XI at current and id have him over Harewood & Lovenkrands anyday. But his problem is he thinks he's better than he actually is.

2 goals in 10 games isnt good but isnt bad in a league that is realy tough in spain try bringing him back cos sholas a plank and if we do get beckford would be good to play 2 new strikers together and see what happens
