Does Chris Hughton not rate Ryan Taylor at all?

### Taylor - Hasn’t seen a whole lot of playing time on Tyneside this season

A great win yesterday and a very successful season to say the least. Thank you Chris Hughton, thank you supporters and indeed our thanks to the players. That aside, there’s been something in the back of my mind all the time and I have to bring it up. Ryan Taylor arrived from Wigan Athletic over a season ago, in the January transfer window alongside Kevin Nolan and came here with high hopes. I must say I was excited at the prospect of having the free-kick expert on Tyneside to apply his skills to set pieces and indeed to bolster a side that lacks a real set-piece taker, Danny Guthrie aside.

Throughout this season, we’ve mixed our side up a bit but I must say, Ryan Taylor hasn’t really featured as much as he should. He played in the early stages, like at Crystal Palace where he scored a lovely goal and indeed at Ipswich where he too netted a delightful free-kick. Mind you, he’s come off the bench in a lot of the matches and scored straight away like at home to Barnsley and against Coventry City if memory serves me right.

I think Taylor is a good player and indeed a good RM. With the arrival of Wayne Routledge, it has been hard for the lad to get into the side and I must say I feel sorry for him. I just hope he isn’t forced out of the club because we could certainly use someone with his experience both in the Premier League and cups.

I’d like to think Chris does rate him but it’ll be interesting to see if he features much more in the Coca Cola Championship’s remaining fixtures or indeed , in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Comments welcome 🙂

I feel sorry for the lad also, but in the end of the day he's not good enough to hold down a 1st team spot. He's too physically weak and not mentally disciplined enough to be a right back, too slow and not attack minded enough to be a winger. He might shine in a 3-5-2 or 5 at the back playing as a wingback but again I doubt he's got the stamina to play it effectively, and would be dead with the running by the hour mark. It leaves him in limbo, and in terms of his skills quite average at everything bar set pieces, which simply isn't enough for us to allow him to be a passenger. I do believe he needs 1st team football to help nail down a position here, but it will not come and so he needs to move on. I wish him all the best now as I cannot see him being here by the start of the new season if Hughton has his way, and rightly so imo.

Ryan is a trier, but not Premiership quality. His delivery is ok, but he is not blessed with pace - Wigan werent beating his door down to give him a new contract, and I think his days are numbered

I fee ofr the lad, but I personally don't rate Ryan Taylor at all. He's a liability and, in my opinion, no better at freekicks than Guthrie. On top of that, Barton's freekick isn't terrible as a backup. I remember the game against Leicester this year, when they went down to 10men. They still managed to give Taylor the run around! It was almost as if they identified him as the weakness and cntinually attacked that side. Wigan fans were chuffed to be rid of him and I've got to say, I can sort of see why. While he has managed some decent performances this year, and is versataille, and always gives 100%, he's managed to look average at very best in the championship. Not a player I'd like to take with us to the Premiership. Although he has Premiership experience, it has proven him to be weak.

i rate the kid and feel for him, he comes on and scores, chris hughton should give him a few games, hes probably lacking stamina because he hasnt got many games under his belt. His deliveries in my oppinion are better that guthries. Since we have won the title i think chris might give a few other players starts and see how they cope

Rule Number 1: Never get rid of a valuable squad player until you have secured someone better to replace him.

Ryan has popped up with a few goals & some very good assists this season. Anyone slagging him for not bein' quick needs to look at the other parts of his game. He's great back up in several positions & has a great delivery on him. spotlight kid-i'm gonna booglarize ya baby.

i agree he's no world beater but an honest down to earth squad player. Only get rid if he wants first team football, don't think he'll get much in the premier. His goals/assists ratio is pretty good tho and i think he can do us a job.

We needed him until Guthrie found his set piece ability, which has kind of made him not needed. It is the only thing he has really(...but he is really good at it).
